Madeline Rudnick, 22 was recently interviewed by The Coast News Group about the smartphone app “Getmii, which Rudnick recently launched with a group of friends. Describing the app during her interview, Maddie, as she's known to her friends, had an uh oh Google meet Getmii moment. Rudnick explained Getmii is “like Google for people.”

Information Won't Help You Build Furniture

During her interview the Yale graduate Getmiikin* noted “whether you are looking for something abstract, such as friendship or advice, or something more concrete, such as a delivery service…information isn’t going to help you build furniture, order a pizza or find companionship during hardship, people will.

That is what we are doing.” In the new age of Social Media Sharing, information is no longer enough.  Getmii bridges the gap. Getmii is poised to disrupt traditional search engines deployed by such behomeths such as Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask, to name just a few. The app has been downloaded more than 10,000 times in the two weeks since it officially dropped.

Uber, Lyft, Airbnb

Before you scoff at the possibility that any company or app can disrupt major businesses, consider what Uber has done to the taxi industry and Amazon has done to the book business. Usually an industry’s disruption happens faster than anyone can imagine. Business incumbents like those in the vacation rentals, homes, apartments and rental rooms were shocked at how quickly Airbnb caused a sudden dataclysmic shift.

Location Based Social Media

Getmii is a location-based social media application originally created by Max Meyer, Darryl Lau and Matthias Juergens.

Using the application, users broadcast posts to other users nearby who can see and respond. A response enters both users into a private chat, wherein users can share location and contact information. Each post lasts on the app for a limited time, after which Getmii claims it will be deleted from the company's servers. Users can choose to post their needs and respond to others' needs anonymously. This action removes the user's name, picture and mutual friends from his or her post. The same guidelines apply to responding anonymously to a post. An anonymous poster retains anonymity within the private chat. Rudnick summed up Getmii by saying “Getmii cuts out the middleman to connect you directly with another person. Complex needs are best served by humans.”
