The Acai ( ah-sigh-EE ) Berry has become a superstar in the skin world, in the past few years, due to the buzz generated when the famous skin doctor - Dr. Perricone - deemed it to be the #1 Skin Food in the world.
The Acai Berry received superstar status in the skin doctors book, "The Perricone Promise".
It also made it to Oprah's list, which of course sealed its reputation as a wonder food.
This little dark purple berry, which is about the size of a traditional blueberry (also great for skin and beauty) is not readily accessible in berry form, to anyone who doesn't actually live in the The Amazon Rainforest in Brazil, where the little fruit grows.
Although it is called a berry, the Acai is mostly seed with just a little bit of pulp. The Acai is valued for both the pulp and the seed but the seed is never eaten or ground up.
The bad news is that the Acai berry goes rancid within a matter of hours. Therefore for anyone not able to get them instantly off the tree, the Acai berry must be utilized via freeze dried Acai powders.
Never fear, the beauty and hair product gurus of the world have figured out how to harness the Acai Berry to help all of us mere mortals to benefit from the beautifying properties of the big A Berry. This little wonder food can and is being added to a wide range of hair and beauty products.
Expect Acai Berry to be included in a wide range of Dr. Perricone - deemed it to be the #1 Skin Food in the world.
My awareness of the little Acai Berry has been growing lately due to more beauty and hair media coverage on the benefits of the ingredient.
Recently my awareness of the Acai was heightened when I accidentally discovered it as an ingredient in LA Ink's Total Moisture Daily Body Lotion, which I have been using and loving.
To be honest, my use of the Total Moisture lotion was accidental. I bought a bottle for my guest bathroom at home because it has such a gorgeous packaging.
The artwork on the LA Ink Total Moisture bottle knocked my socks off. Actually everything about the bottle's exterior design is stellar (in my opinion anyway).
I didn't actually use my guest bathroom lotion until one day when I noticed the skin on my heels were especially dry and itchy (yes, a little TMI, but what the heck). I grabbed the closest thing available which happened to be the LA Ink bottle.
I was stunned by the richness of the lotion as well as the amazing fragrance (rich berry).
But for me the proof is always in the results. The lotion did wonders for instantly softening the skin on the heels of my feet. I decided to slather it all over my arms and legs and experienced a second appreciation.
When checking out the lotion I noticed is had a slight purple color and wondered why. Looking at the ingredients which are chock full of some amazing things, I noticed the fountain of youth ingredient - Acai ( ah-sigh-EE ) Berry - which is naturally a deep purple in color.
Hmmmm. I was impressed. Not only did the LA Ink Total Moisture lotion make my skin feel soft, the formula included the sizzling hot acai berry.
Looking at the ingredients on the bottle the product also includes Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Cocoa Butter, Silk Amino Acids, Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Extract, Kola Nut, Bamboo Extract, Green and White Tea, Grape Seed Extact, Arnica Montana and even Golden Seal Root. It also contains an exclusive composition designed to protect and enhance tattoos.
I was blown away by all the incredible ingredients. No wonder it feels to good on my skin and smells amazing. Could you ask for anything more?
Well how about the price? You might expect to pay quite a bit for a lotion that has stunning packaging and chockfull of beauty enhancing ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that LA Ink's Total Moisture retails for around $10.00.
The bad news? I tend to be a little obsessive when it comes to giving gifts. Hopefully none of my friends and family will be reading this blog because the Total Moisture has become my favorite new "affordable" ab-fab gift of choice. Yes, you guessed it, I now have a stockpile already gift wrapped to grab for gifting.
Don't be surprised to see lots of hair and beauty products being introduced in 2009 touting the inclusion of the Acai Berry or me writing about it more because I will be researching its true benefits for the future.
Please let me know any Acai Berry experiences you have had and what you think of this new superstar ingredient.
