Care in point? Naturally curly haired Debra Messing. The lovely redhead who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in The Starter Wife chose to wear a ponytail that was pulled sleek along the crown with the bulk of her hair softened into a lots of waves.
Also, not that she would probably ever admit it, but Debra's hair appeared to be enhanced throughout the back of her ponytail with lots of hair extensions set in waves to add lots of volume.
Not a ringlet was in sight with Debra's hair. The fashion critics both loved and hated Debra's look. However, known for her natural curls, Debra went with a modified version.
Beyonce - Sleek Updo
Beyonce looked stunning in her fitted strapless ivory white Elie Saab Haute Couture gown which was beautifully accented with a sprinkling of silver sequins. Her naturally curly tresses were pulled back into a super sleek bun which complemented her sleek side swept off-the-face fringe starting with a deep side part.

Beyonce showed off her gorgeous gown with an eye popping signature necklace that could only work with her natural texture pulled up and off her shoulders.
Eva Mendes - Sleek Twist
Many fashionistas flipped over the self proclaimed Cuban American - Eva Mendes for her strapless white silk taffeta Dior gown. She wore an eye popping statement necklace made out of turquoise from Van Cleef and Arpel. The necklace was so unique it brought gorgeous color to her sparkling white gown accented with side ruffles.

Eva who also has natural curls and waves also wore her hair very sleek with a side swept fringe and a high back twist. She looked amazing.
Possibly one of the reasons natural curls were in the minority at the Golden Globes was due to the arrival of the new "signature" jewels which included stunning necklaces like those worn by Beyonce and Eva and spectacular earrings like the ones worn by Kate Beckinsale. Kate looks stunning in a J. Mendel white gown.
When the gown has lots of detailing or beautiful earrings or necklaces are part of the total look, the hair needs to be contained, pulled back and sleek so as not to compete with the beauty of the gown and the jewels.
Although a few curly looks were present, they were not as well received as the stunning array of buns. Fashion critics blasted Renee Zellweger for wearing her normally straight hair with lots of curls. Although the fashion police also gave her poor marks for her unusual gown, her curls caught lots of bad press.
Miley Cyrus also lost marks for wearing what appeared to be lots of pre-curled/pre-waved hair extensions which the fashionistas felt competed with her age appropriate cream Marchesa gown with gold floral appliqué detailing.
The clear winner in the hair wars at the 2009 Golden Globes were sleek updos, twists and buns with minimal curls and waves due to the appearance of signature jewels and gowns with lots of ruffles, off-the-shoulder sashes and other details which demanded sleek hairstyles.
Kate Beckinsale also looked fabulous in her white J. Mendel gown and Salma Hayek showed off her girls in her elegant white Bottega Veneta. Please follow us on Twitter at: https://Twitter.com/HairBoutique. I look forward to meeting new people from all walks of Twitter and learning from their Tweets.
