Clint Eastwood's Hair

Clint Eastwood (born May 31, 1930) whom Ellen Degeneres calls "the legendary Clint Eastwood" recently appeared on the funny lady's show (Friday, January 9, 200). As Ellen pointed out, throughout the course of his illustrious career Clint has appeared in 57 films, directed 29 and has won many awards including Academy Awards.

Indeed, the extremely famous Clint has won five Academy Awards - twice as Best Director and as producer of the Best Picture as the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1995.

The fabulous actor was also nominated twice for best actor for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. Clint was also the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California back in the 1980s.

As Ellen told her audience, Clint is "one of the most recognized actors in the world". The daytime talk show hostess told him he "looked fantastic - looked great".

The actor did indeed look fantastic wearing a comfy pair (well at least they looked comfy) of chocolate brown slacks, a creamy white shirt and a soft gray jacket. His hair which is a stunning shade of silky gray was worn with carefully created volume along the crown.

For his age group in the male hair world, Clint Eastwood has awesome hair.  It's styled well, it's a great natural shade - or at least looks very natural - and it suits his age and manner of dress.

Clint told Ellen she also looked great. Ellen said "Clint is our neighbor here (at the show) and he has stopped by" before.

Ellen's interview with Mr. Eastwood was relaxed, playful, funny and amusing. Clint teased Ms. Degeneres and at times played the straight man to her trademark goofing around. It was a really good interview. Obviously the two celebrities like each other.

The very handsome actor said when Ellen first moved onto her new stage at Warner Brothers she brought him a present of a trash can and then took it back one hour later.

She explained to the actor it was from someone else's office and she had to take it back.  It appeared to have been part of her playing around or maybe there was a joke about giving him a trash can.  Who knows?  Apparently Ellen and Clint have visited back and forth in their offices on the lot.

His appearance was Clint's "first official visit" on the show and he was visiting with Ellen to promote his latest film - Gran Torino - which has just opened in theaters and been doing well in the box office.

At one point early in the interview the handsome actor looked out into the audience and asked Ellen if there "were any men in the audience" saying he was having an "estrogen fallout".

The actor laughed after the audience applauded and told them "thank you for being here".  He definitely knew how to engage well with everyone.

Ellen asked Clint if he had a favorite film from all the various films he had worked on. She specifically mentioned 'Dirty Harry', 'Unforgiven' and 'The Bridges of Madison County' as some of the films he had made over the years.

Clint told Ellen "they're (the movies) all your favorites when you're doing them". He explained "the films become the eyes of the beholder when you're done with them but they all have special meaning when you are shooting them and have some meaning in your life at the time".

Clint told Ellen one of his favorite films was actually 'The Bridges of Madison County'. The actor mentioned that Bridges was a romantic role.  He said he's more of "a romantic kind of guy than the tough guys he normally plays".

The audience laughed at Clint's comments but Ellen pointed out he was being serious. Ellen said Clint is actually much more that type of guy (romantic) than the tough guy he plays so well.

Clint is best-known for his tough guy, anti-hero, roles especially in from the 1960s through the 1980s when he played Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry films. In Gran Torina Clint again plays a tough guy. Ellen pointed out that Clint can be really mean in his roles.

Ellen told the audience that Clint started on the Warner Brothers lot in 1975. He came over with The Outlaw Josey Wales and stayed since then. Ellen found an old photo of Clint working out in front of his bungalow from many many years ago. She displayed the photo of Clint with his weight for the audience to see. Clint said "it looks like it could be my son" I don't want to look at it.

Clint explained "when you start looking at your old tapes and you sort of watch yourself "mature" it can be "difficult to watch". Ellen agreed explaining she had tapes of herself from the past five years and when she watches she "cringes" looking at how she has changed.

Ellen wanted to know how Clint celebrated the holidays since he comes from a big family. Clint told Ellen "the Holidays are pretty simple. We have a lot of family come in, we have a few animals present - they're relatives of hers - then we go off skiing to Sun Valley".

Clint's New Year's Resolutions

Ellen asked Clint if he made New Year's resolutions. The actor paused, looked down and picked up one of the Ellen Coffee Cups sitting on the table. He wanted to know if he could keep one of the cups and she said "$3.00" without skipping a beat.

Clint replied he didn't specifically make resolutions because it was the new year but felt that every day offered a learning experience just as the guy in Gran Torino learns. The actor said "you learn something every day". He said the point to Gran Torino is  "learning".  Ellen agreed that the film is about transformations, learning and growing.

Ellen wanted to know what Clint does when he's not writing, acting, directing? He explained he "flies helicopters" because you "can be very quiet and be by yourself. You're just a number in the sky".

He" flies back and forth between Carmel, California", where he lives. He asked Ellen if she wanted to go up in the air sometime. She agreed to go up with him and told the audience Clint has a great helicopter.

Ellen asked Clint if it's hard to fly a helicopter. He replied "you have a little co-ordination thing with a helicopter but once you get the hang of it you're fine".

After Ellen teased Clint about working the helicopter petals and looking for signs you are flying right side up they moved on in the conversation.

Ellen wanted to know if playing the mean guy in Gran Torino was hard for Clint? Did he need a hug every day? Clint said that "once you get past 70, what can they do to you? There is a cutoff point. You have to go along with it".  Clint said "you're never too old to learn" even "old dogs like me".

There are people like this (the main character in Gran Torino) and some of them come out of it and some of them don't.

Ellen wanted to know how Clint was able to play the tough guys in all the films he has done. Clint said "Maybe I have an anger management problem", which got a great laugh from Ellen and the audience but it was an interesting response.

Golden Globe Award Nominee For GranTorino

Do the awards still matter to him? Clint said he just makes the pictures. They become someone elses once he is finished.

Clint noted "you do the best you can and you move on".  In fact, the well coiffed actor/director/producer is getting ready to move on to another project. Clint's taking off to Africa to do a story about Nelson Mandella. He will be in Africa for a couple - three months.

Ellen ended her interview with Clint by pulling out a huge key ring with hundreds of keys and asked him to hold onto her keys in case she gets locked out of her offices or the stage.  Ellen pointed out specific keys, to the liquor cabinet, the liquor hutch, her momma's house, Portia's diary....etc.,

Clint agreed to hold onto the keys after Ellen invited him to use them to help himself to whatever he might want.

The interview with Clint ended on a great note and it was an amazing segment for Ellen's show.
