It's been a busy week for Miss America 2009 Katie Stam! A proclamation, parade and cheers greeted Katie on Wednesday, March 4th in her first return to Indiana since she was crowned in January of 2009.
Her whirlwind Hoosier tour began in her hometown of Seymour, where Mayor Craig Luedeman declared Wednesday, March 4thto be Miss America Katie Stam Day! He welcomed her with a parade from Seymour High School to City Hall and then presented her with a key to the city.
Thursday, Katie was in Indianapolis, where she spoke before legislators at the Statehouse and had lunch with Gov. Mitch Daniels. She also participated in a promotion with the Governor for his "IN Shape Indiana" program at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport.
From there she was whisked off to her school, the University of Indianapolis, where she was welcomed home with a warm reception by her fellow classmates.
On Friday, March 6th Katie performed two songs as part of An Evening with Miss America, a fundraiser for the Miss Indiana Scholarship Organization. She also crowned her successor to Miss Indiana.
Saturday, March 7th, Katie appeared at the National Maple Syrup Festival in Medora, IN. She also appeared at the big Homecoming Gala in her honor. She was joined on stage by several of her fellow contestants from the 2009 Miss America Pageant, and she was honored by several Indiana dignitaries.
Finally, on Monday, March 9th Miss America embarked on a special three day mall tour with the Simon Mall Group in Indiana. This will wrap up Katie's first visit to her home state!
