Dressing Long Hair From Yin To Yang Collection By Onita Luisi
Onita Luisi from Marlboro, New Jersey was one of the winners of a John Paul Mitchell Systems Photo Shoot Competition.
As a result of winning the competition, Onita was flown to Los Angeles to bring her entry's creative idea to life, working with Paul Mitchell Editorial Director and NAHA winner Lucie Doughty.
The winning hairdresser also worked with a team consisting of a top editorial photographer, makeup artist, and wardrobe stylist.

Onita submitted her hair design portfolio highlighting her top cuts, color and styles of her career, along with brainstormed inspiration boards for her dream editorial shoot for the judges' consideration. At the recent photo shoot, judge and shoot mentor Lucie Doughty coached Onita through the process of putting together an editorial quality photo shoot based on her inspiration of the Yin To Yang theory.
Yin To Yang Theory
Onita developed the Yin To Yang Trilogy Collection. She said her "inspiration for my hair collection stems from teaching the new stylists in training at my salon, Chips, over the past 10 years.
As we are a multi-ethnic salon, we have a multitude of ethnic combinations of hair to work with. I noticed that our stylists were shy when it came to ethnic hair so I developed a training program which encompasses both textures.
The images shown below demonstrate two gorgeous updos for long hair on two different multi-ethnic models, Ashley and Minta. The two models have different hair types and textures.
Onita commented "for the second part of the Yin To Yang Black and White Trilogy, I created a couple of ‘dressed' long hair looks."
Onita said "the inspiration for these looks comes from watching the English royals (i.e. princesses at England's Derby Day).
They are hair styles that speak elegance, yet stand strong and sophisticated at the same time."
1. Ashley's hair was prepped with Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo® and Extra-Body Daily Rinse® to create fullness.
Model #2: Minta
Model #2 was Minta. Her "texture was bolder, so I used Paul Mitchell Soft Spray® to control and style her pony tail. I love working with Soft Spray® as it allows working flexibility with controlled hold."
Onita explained "the collection is designed to show the duality of the textures and how they can simultaneously yield the same intended, harmonious look, as expressed in the theory behind the Yin/Yang."
