Miss America 2009 Katie Stam - Visits New Orleans and Lifts Spirits
Miss America 2009 Katie Stam visited New Orleans this week and promoted her message of community service and involvement. She started the day off by speaking to students at local schools on the importance of volunteering and her year as Miss America.

Afterwards, she stopped by Camp Restore, the major agency overseeing home recovery efforts in New Orleans and Biloxi and gave inspirational presentations to the students present.
After lunch and a quick change into paint-friendly clothes at Camp Restore, Katie traveled to join volunteers working to paint Chiquita Day's house.
Chiquita is a homeowner in New Orleans East who was finally able to return to New Orleans from Houston this past summer to live with relatives and hopes to be back in her home by January. After working on the house, Katie traveled to the restored home of Gladys Hays to welcome her back home and for a house blessing. The blessing and dedication was led by Pastor Scott Schmieding of Recovery Assistance, Inc. Ministries, who accompanied her throughout the day.
After a wonderful day of helping people in need, Katie was able to enjoy some of the famous sites of New Orleans, such as the French Quarter.
