The gorgeous Gaga was the special musical guest today (January 15th) on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Dressed all in white Gaga performed three of her hit songs and ended at the piano.
As always, her appearance on stage was dramatic. Gaga stepped onto the stage with a ball and chain and spiky jumpsuit - complete with a three tiered spiked headdress with her trademark platinum hair pulled back into a twist. Gaga started with "Monster" before transitioning into her hit "Bad Romance,".
With the help of one of her back up dancers Gaga jumped up onto a prop taxi, taking the ball and chain and smashing it into the windshield. Gaga completed the set with "Speechless."
After her two rocking performances Gaga sat with Oprah and shared part of her soul. She told Oprah she preferred to be called Gaga rather than Lady Gaga because she didn't like being called Lady.
Gaga was obviously distressed about the earthquake crisis in Haiti and announced towards the end of her appearance that she'll be donating all proceeds from The Monster's Ball Concert on January 24 in New York to relief for Haiti.
She talked to Oprah about 911 and how she had been there in New York when it happened. Afterall, Gaga grew up in a wealthy area of New York and actually went to school with Paris Hilton.
Gaga did not directly discuss her recent health challenges, but did imply she has been going through a trying time. Gaga admitted "I always have very trying weeks in terms of my physical schedule." She also chatted with Oprah about her breakfast of fried chicken and how she needed to find some soul.
Oprah, as a treat for Gaga had arranged for a chef to cook for Gaga and apparently she had asked for fried chicken and waffles. Gaga admitted she was a secret foodie and loved to cook. Who knew? Right.
Regarding Haiti, Gaga said that all proceeds from her will go to relief organizations for the earthquake in the embattled country.
"Haiti's still suffering," she said. "And I was thinking earlier, because I was in New York during 9/11 and I always felt, the level of disaster isn't in the neighborhood of what is happening in Haiti, but I just remember feeling nobody really understood. And I worry that young people don't know enough about what's going on there."
She continued "And I will say today that on the 24th, the Monster Ball (her show) in New York City, all of the money that I make in ticket sales and merchandise will go to Haiti. And on the 24th you can also go onto ladygaga.com and any merchandise that you buy, the money will go to Haiti."
Gaga appeared on Oprah right after"Avatar" director James Cameron. Gaga revealed to Oprah she had always wanted to paint herself blue, like the Na'vi in the film. "It's actually funny about James Cameron, because I've been talking about how I want to paint myself blue for a performance for the longest time," she explained. "I've been preparing to do it and then 'Avatar' came out."
The singer addressed how she felt about being called Lady Gaga rather than just Gaga. "I don't like that, actually. It feels so weird when people call me 'lady,' she said about her stage name.
She also said "I wake up in the morning and I get on my computer and I have files and reference boards and I call the Haus of Gaga all day and argue with them. For me it's all about being provocative. It's not just about getting attention, but about really saying something that affects people."
"The hardest part about my job is that I'm bossy, really. This is my only opportunity to live my dream."
Gaga also gave Winfrey's cameras a peek at the inner workings of her Monster Ball Tour, showing showing her the wardrobe closet and her actual office. She added that before her team hits the stage they have a very specific pre-show ritual. "We always at the end of the prayer say 'Joanne' altogether because that was my father's sister, who died very young, and I believe she's onstage every night."
Oprah said she would like to spend a little time in GaGa's mind, but only two minutes. Can you only imagine being in GaGa's brain for even two minutes? It would be fabulous for sure.
