Aloe Vera For Bald Spots And Hair Regrowth?

There's lots of buzz about aloe vera and what it can do for hair floating around in the blog world.

Unfortunately there's tons of misinformation on the Web so always remember to do your own homework before accepting information at face value.

Sometimes I believe hair and beauty information is provided just to improve a blog's Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  Of course the technique's nothing new.  How many times have you been lured to buy a magazine, book or even a film because of the titles?

Aloe Vera Hair Benefits Misinformation?

One of the possible points of misinformation with aloe vera is that it can reverse baldness.  Can it?  I'm not so sure.

Although it is true that aloe vera gel, especially when used directly from the plant, can help scalp issues, it may or may not promote regrowth of lost hair.  To say that aloe vera gel applied to bald spots or thinning areas of the scalp will reverse the issue is an over simpification and prone to wild speculations.

Now I can say Basil often helps regrow hair.  I know because it helped me when I lost a ton of my hair to drastic weight loss programs many years ago.  But aloe vera?  It never worked for me.

A better way to discuss aloe vera is to say that it does contain an enzyme that may in some cases help promote hair growth for some people.  Definitely not all and possibly only a small number.

Aloe vera gel and juice has some great uses for hair but it is not the touchstone of miracle hair growth or hair beauty that it is sometimes made out to be.

Aloe Vera Gel Is All Natural From The Plant

Although aloe vera gel, when taken directly from the plant, is all natural.  It is also an oversimplification to say it has no side effects.  For most people it may not but never say never.  If you're going to try aloe vera for a thinning scalp or tresses, do your own research and proceed slowly.  It's always better to be safe then sorry.

If you have tons of aloe vera plants around your home or just happen to like the gel for soothing burnt or dry skin, you may enjoy trying some aloe vera hair recipes at home in your kitchen or bathroom.

Aloe Vera Hair Conditioner For Oily Scalp Or Hair

Athough there's nothing wrong with applying aloe vera gel directly to your bald spots or thinning areas, there's no guarantee it will provide any miracle cure.  If you decide to try this treatment be sure you do it consistently for a period of 30 days and keeps detailed notes.

It's also important to measure the thinning hair or the circumference of the bald spot before you start so you can scientifically track results.

One recipe using aloe vera gel which is popular and has great feedback to results for oily scalp and hair is an Aloe Vera Conditioner.  If you would like to try it at home follow the recipe listed below.

Combine the following ingredients:

¼ cup aloe vera gel (from the plant when possible or the health food store)

½ of a fresh squeezed lemon (organic is always best when available)

3-5 drops essential oils of your choice - (I like to use Rosemary which is great for overall hair balance)

Mix the aloe vera gel with the juice of half a lemon. Add the essential oils.

Apply to freshly cleansed and towel blotted hair. Leave on for 3 to 5 minutes.  Rinse completely.  Finish with a cool/cold water rinse.  When possible allow hair to air dry.

This recipe is considered beneficial for oily scalps and strands.  If your hair is naturally dry you may want to skip this recipe.

If you like this recipe and the results it provides you can experiment with different essential oils and by bumping up the amount of each ingredient added.  It's also possible to add Aloe Vera directly to your favorite shampoo, rinse-out or leave-in conditioners.
