HBO's Boardwalk Empire was spectacular in every way from the writing, the acting, the storyline, the cast chemistry, the costumes, the hairstyles, the hair accessories and of course there was that very important hairpiece, the one worn by the dead actress shown on the slab in the morgue.

I have to admit I did a double take when I saw it. Wow, that was a lot of pubic hair she was wearing. Except that it wasn't her "real" pubic hair, at least from all indications it was what is known in the trade as a merkin.
According to Wikipedia, a merkin which was first used in 1617, is a wig created specifically for public hair. Merkins were originally worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia, and are nowadays used as decorative items or in film making.
Did you know that? Although I did, it didn't really dawn on me until I was looking at the dead girl on the slab and went, Eureka, that must be a merkin. Don't you must love all the attention to detail which was displayed in this very first episode? Needless to say, if Boardwalk Empire doesn't blow away every award on the planet I will be shocked.
