James Durbin has quite an impressive talent along with a compelling back story. He also knows how to command the stage and turn up the rock n roll heat. James was one of the final 10 selected at the end of last week to move on in the Season 10 of American Idol.
In a group of very talented guys, he's stood out from the beginning with his impressive vocal range. The only complaint about James? Sometimes he tends to over sing in order to show off his impressive talents.
Bringing Judas Priest In For A Perfect Landing
Durbin who doesn't shy away from pushing himself to the edge tackled "Judas Priest's 'You've Got Another Thing Comin' in the first round of viewer voting. The hard core rocker also amped up his signature faux mohawk and added a long scarf to his jeans to create a type of tail.
Obviously the young man who has battled many challenges in his young life managed to tone down his performance to showcase his amazing range and vocal power.
Judge Steven Tyler was blown away and shouted "That was f****** crazy good!" Judge Lopez praised the performance by saying "Every move you make comes from something inside. That's what everybody needs to do when they're up there, and you do it so naturally." Randy Jackson who has been transformed into the harsh judge said "That's how you do it, right there!" He told the rest of the contestants. "This is how you do it!"
Edgy Highlighted Faux Mohawk
Besides his stellar voice, commanding performance and absolute determination Durbin stands out from the pack with his edgy highlighted faux Mohawk.
Just as he is striving to tone down his singing style, Durbin's hawk hairstyle is subtle. It's not wildly colored, overstyled or over sprayed. He uses just enough product to create the necessary lift and flow. Even though his hawk stands at attention down the middle of his head, spilling over at the crown, it seems flexible and soft.
Of course if his mohawk is too soft, it will flop, so obviously Durbin has mastered the right combination of hair cut shape and products to mold his signature hairstyle to work perfectly while he's performing.
Lets hope the AI stylist don't alter Durbin's hairstyle too much because it works so perfectly with the image he's trying to project.
