Naturally curly tressed Karen Rodriguez fought hard to win her place in the Top 13 American Idol (AI) finalists.
The 21 year old curly haired competitor's first performance for audience votes was Mariah Carey's "Hero". She performed the song in both English and Spanish. Her dual language rendition wowed the audience members and the judges. Rodriquez has expressed her dream to become the first Hispanic American Idol winner.
Rodriguez told MTV News , "I decided to sing in Spanish because I am a Latina. I want to represent for all my Latinos out there. America is a big melting pot, it's not only English, there are so many languages infused in this country and I just wanted to support my race."
AI Judge Feedback
Although Judge Jennifer Lopez seems to have a special soft spot for Rodriquez, overwhelming fan support has helped her get to the Top 13. Judge Steven Tyler has gushed, "You're definitely a one-of-a-kind singer."
As for her dream duet partner, Rodriguez told TV Guide that it would be judge Jennifer Lopez's husband, Marc Anthony. She stated, "Marc Anthony stops by sometimes and he gives me hugs and thumbs up. … He's another one of my idols. If there is someone who I would love to sing with and do a duet with, it would be him."
Natural Curls
Rodriquez is an exotic beauty with an array of natural curls, coils and ringlets which explode from a center part and cascade around her face and down to the top of her shoulders.
Although Rodriquez initially appeared on AI with her natural curls forming a gorgeous halo around her head, recently she has been wearing her medium length coils straightened into bone straight panels with a slight flip at the ends.
Here's hoping the Latina honors her natural curls and keeps them flowing throughout the competition and doesn't drastically change her hair.
