As far as her hair goes Fran has told the media in the past Drescher knows hair. “When I’m working, I like it a little more controllable,” she says. “But I wouldn’t ever straighten it permanently. I like having the options.”
The series is loosely based on Fran's real life relationship with her ex-husband (Peter Marc Jacobson). In "Happily Divorced" Fran deals with dating after discovering her realtor husband of 18 years (John Michael Higgins) is gay.
Fran juggles her new relationships, while still living under the same roof with her ex-husband. The cast is rounded out by Fran's best friend Judi (Tichina Arnold), her parents Dori and Glen (Rita Moreno and Robert Walden) and her flower delivery employee Cesar (Valente Rodriguez).
The scripts are written by Fran Drescher and her ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson ("The Nanny," "What I Like About You").
Fran Drescher is beloved for her role in The Nanny and is known for her iconic voice, but she has also won praise for her advocacy efforts to bring down women's cancer death rates. Her own struggle with cancer in the past landed her on a Top 5 list of Hollywood's political powerhouses.
Just like her personal experience with discovering her husband of many years was gay, Fran used her own life experience of being diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2002 to launch the Cancer Schmancer Movement in 2007. Her cancer diagnosis and her decision to take her own experience to other women was a major life-changing experience for the beloved star.
Fran's Cancer Schmancer Movement was based on educating women about the importance or prevention and methods of early detection. In 2009 Cancer Schmancer was voted the 2009 runner up for the Cancer Fighters Award.
In preparation for her new TV series Fran has popped up on a range of talk shows to share information about the show. Indeed, it is based on her own happy divorce with her ex-husband. The naturally curly girl promises that the show will have all the right ingredients including fun, laughter and great plots.
