Pop Icon Rihanna is trading in the wild red, blonde and raven black hairstyles she showcases in stage performances for a shorter cropped brunette hairdo for her acting debut in the film Battleship. The Pop star is now taking on a new role as an actress.
The film is a version of the beloved board game Battleship you may have played as a child and the first official photos of Rihanna in the film as Petty Officer Raikes has been released to the media.
Not only is Rihanna sporting a conservative military appropriate hairstyle, she is wearing a fresh-face and a buttoned-up camouflage uniform.
She has an over sized weapon which might catch more of your attention than her cleavage. If you didn't know it was Rihanna, you might know it was really the outrageous popster.
“It was a role I felt like I could handle for my first time acting and he was super enthusiastic about it,” Rihanna told Fandango about getting the gig from director Peter Berg.
Set for release in May 2012, “Battleship” centers on a fleet of Navy ships fighting “an armada of unknown origins.” The action movie also stars “True Blood” vampire Alexander Skarsgard, Liam Neeson and beautiful blonde model Brooklyn Decker.
In preparation for the role, RiRi had to do real Naval officer conditioning, including running around a ship, swimming and taking orders from a drill sergeant.
“One man drilled me, yelled at me, cursed me out, made me do push ups,” the singer says of her training.
Is Rihanna planning to follow in the footsteps of Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez and transitioning to acting? Or will she pop up as a new judge in a reality talent contest? In Hollywood anything is possible. Right?
