According to gothamist.com an Oyster Bay woman was arrested for allegedly suffocating her friend's dog by placing hair ties around its snout, a creatively sick way to torture an animal.
Jamie Feldmar reported that Nicole Ottaiano was staying at a home in Franklin Square when the incident took place. The owner of the two dogs in the home said he saw Ottaiano place hair ties around the snout of one his dogs, an 11-year-old Shepherd mix named Jackpot.
The man told Ottaiano to remove the ties and not put anything on the dogs' snouts, and walked out of the room. When he returned about 20 minutes later, he found Ottaiano "on top of a blanket on the bed and his other dog, Little, an 11-year-old Staffordshire terrier, under the blanket with two hair ties around its snout."
Little was not breathing and police said that attempts to revive the dog failed.
Ottaiano (who the Post says is 29, and Newsday 20) was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and is set to be arraigned today. It is not known if she has a lawyer.
