Nicole Scherzinger X Factor’s Controversial New Judge Hair How To

Nicole Scherzinger was popular as a talent judge on NBC's The Singoff  last year.  NBC's loss was Fox/TV's gain.  Nicole has left one judging table for a new one.  Nicole is now one of the controversial new judges on the highly anticipated X Factor which premiered on Fox this evening.

Nicole is not only wildly talented, she is famous for her stunning waist-length hair which according to Hollywood hair insiders is 100% all hers.

The former lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls joins Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid for TV's biggest talent competition ever.  The largest prize in reality TV history is up for grabs on X Factor.  The winner takes home a $5 million record deal.

Although Nicole was 22 years old when she auditioned for WB's reality TV series, Popstars, it was her own version of the golden ticket which propelled the gorgeous brunette from her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky right into Eden's Crush.  She was at the forefront of reality TV.

It was only a decade ago when Scherzinger was standing on the other side of the judges’ table. The then 22-year-old had driven from her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, to Chicago to audition for a WB reality series called Popstars.  Scherzinger’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” by her longtime idol, Whitney Houston, wowed the judges.

Nicole Scherzinger on American IdolThe young wannabe star has told the media her time on Popstar “was crazy. I wasn’t used to the camera always being on me and having to leave Kentucky and move to Los Angeles. It was really scary. I was very green and very sensitive. If anyone watched those tapes back, I was usually crying. But it was a great learning experience for me.”

Although Eden's Crush started out with a gold debut album by 2001 the group folded and disbanded and Scherzinger was bummed because she had passed up the opportunity to be the lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas.   Adopting the scantily clad look of The Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger stepped up as the lead singer.

“Growing up with a strong Catholic family and having a very conservative background, I wasn’t used to wearing clothes like that, so it was scary for me at first,” Scherzinger said. “My mom always tried to get me to convince everyone to change the name of the group to The Dolls. But once they heard the music, they were huge fans.”

During her six years (until 2010) with The Dolls she had the opportunity to collaborate with Snoop Dogg Timbaland, Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott.  They also toured with Birney Spears and spawned their own reality TV show, The Search for the Next Doll.  They also released two albums which cracked the Top 10.

Scherzinger became a household name by winning ABC's Dancing With The Stars (DWTS).  She also showed off her chops with her own music.  The now 33-year-old beauty will release her first solo album, Killer Love, in November.  How did she get the gig on the US X-Factor?  She met Cowell when she guest judged on the British version.   She told the media  “I was a huge fan of Simon,” she said. “He tells the truth and he’s himself and that’s actually why I like him so much.”

Nicole Scherzinger on ABC's Dancing With StarsHer seat on the X Factor judge's panel came with a lot of drama.  She was originally attached to X Factor as a cohost.  When British pop star Cheryl Cole was dumped from the show Cowell made Schwarzinger a full-time judge.

Schwarzinger was thrilled.  She said “When they asked me to be a judge, I was ecstatic because I can actually give back and be a mentor and have a voice in that way.” Though Scherzinger said she’d met Cole previously, she added, “I honestly didn’t know her…[but] she’s a lovely girl.”  “I feel like that whole panel is just a force to be reckoned with… Simon always says, ‘I lock the doors. You can’t escape. Anything goes. There are no rules.’”

Not everyone is thrilled with Schwarzinger's role.  Some question if the popstar the deserves the esteemed judging position.   Entertainment Weekly (ET) called her “the very embodiment of Unearned Entitlement,” adding, “The immortal description of Clive James regarding Liza Minnelli holds true of Scherzinger: ‘She can’t even descend a staircase with sincerity.’”

Even Cowell poked fun at the pop star. “Paula can be a bit wacky at times,” Cowell told the New York Daily News recently, adding that Scherzinger adopted the accent of each city in which they held auditions. “But Nicole isn’t far behind, in a fantastically self-centered way, which I found amusing.”

Scandalous shuffling aside, since Scherzinger has won two reality TV shows and judged another [The Singing Bee], she claims to know what the winner of The X Factor needs: “I’m looking for someone who inspires me. And that’s not only going to take talent, but also it needs to be someone I can connect with, through their performance and through their energy.”

Nicole ScherzingerAs far as the reports of a lack of chemistry among the judging quartet, Scherzinger said, “I feel like that whole panel is just a force to be reckoned with… Simon always says, ‘I lock the doors. You can’t escape. Anything goes. There are no rules.’ And he means it. And that’s what he encourages everyone to be like and do. And when you create a space like that, anything is possible and anything can happen—you’re living in a spontaneous world and that’s what makes great television.”

Nicole Scherzinger Hair How To

Follow the steps below to copy Nicole Scherzinger's bone straight raven tresses which often extend almost to her waist.

1. Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with a product designed to address the needs of your hair type, texture and current condition. If your hair is dry or damaged from other factors consider utilizing a hydrating cleansing product. Or you may wish to select a Diluted Shampoo (DS), Conditioner Only Wash (Co Wash) or similar cleansing methodology.

2. Rinse cleansing formula from the hair and then apply an appropriate rinse-out conditioner from the tops of the ears to the ends. If your hair tends to be fine or thin use a rinse out product which is very light.

3. Detangle strands with fingers or a wide-tooth comb working in horizontal sections from the ends up to the roots.

4. Rinse out conditioner and finish with a cool or cold water rinse.

Nicole Scherzinger5. Towel blot to remove excess water.

6. Apply styling cocktail which may include, but not be limited to, detangling spray, defrisant based leave-in conditioner or styling mousse. If hair is not naturally straight you may want to add in a dab of straightening gel or cream.

7. Create desired part. Lea tends to wear side or center parts. Separate hair into 2" horizontal sections and blow dry straight with a 100% boar bristle paddle brush.  Work from one side of the head to the other. Hold the end of each section of hair taut as you direct the air flow from the blow dryer nozzle down the shaft from the roots to the ends to encourage sleekness and shine.

8. After hair is 100% dry separate into 1 1/2 to 2" sections. Apply a thermal protectant to each section before flat ironing with a 1 1/2 to 2" flat iron. Run the iron through each section of hair a few times to achieve a bone straight finish.  If you wish to add texture to the edges then use the iron to slightly twist the end up to create a curve.

9. Once hair is completely cool apply 1-2 drops of shine serum into the palms of the hands and work through the strands from top of the ear to the ends. Do not apply to the roots.

Daily Hair Tip
A paddle style hair brush is perfect for smoothing and finishing (but not styling) long or wavy hair. A paddle style brush is a very wide and flat brush.
