Two 12 Year Old Boys Allegedly Dropped Cart On New York Mother

Grocery Cart

Marion Salmon Hedges, a 47-year-old mother of two, was out in East Harlam, shopping for Halloween candy for underprivileged children on Sunday.

She was with her 14-year-old son.  The New York Daily News reported that Hedges, described as a wealthy Manhatten real-estate agent, is a volunteer at the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center and also very active in her church.

According to reports from the New York Post, Hedges was walking outside a Target store with her son when two 12-year-old boys allegedly dropped a shopping cart four stories and struck Hedges in the head.

The New York Post also reported that Gaurav Patel and his wife, Susan Mahoney, witnessed Hedges being struck in the head and heard her young son screaming.   Patel sprung into action and performed chest compressions on Hedges who was in cardiac arrest.  After Patel worked on her, she became responsive.

An emergency response team transported the real-estate agent to Harlem Hospital where she remains in a medically-induced coma.  The husband of Hedges told the Post, "it's still too early to tell with neurological issues," he told the newspaper.

Halloween Candy

He also said that his family "is going through a very difficult time."    "Every year on Halloween, 1,000 kids come to our block from less-privileged neighborhoods and we spend $500 to $600 on candy for them and that's what she was doing -- buying candy for those kids to do something nice for the community."

The two young suspects who allegedly dropped the basket on Hedges were taken into custody by police and reportedly were telling jokes and laughing with each other after they were taken into custody.

"They were just doing it for fun," one law enforcement source said of the alleged crime which was reported by the New York Post.   The suspects were reportedly charged in Family Court with assault as juveniles.

It's a very sad story or a woman trying to do something good for others and being critically injured by two boys looking to have a good time.

Daily Hair Tip
Split ends are a separation of the hair shaft that exposes hair's fragile inner layers. The only real cure for split ends is to have them trimmed.
