Hair Vodka

Introduction - Hair Vodka

Avocados - Very Moisturizing For Hair Avocados - Very Moisturizing For Hair

One of my all-time favorite celebrity hairstylists is Robert Hallowell.

His ever expanding list of celebrity clients call him the Kitchen Beautician because of his amazing ability to whip up some great hair and beauty recipes in the Hallowell Homestead.

One of my favorites is his Hair Vodka shine enhancing hair mask recipe which he shared with me shortly after we met close to ten years ago.

I still regularly use Robert's Hair Vodka on my own hair to add softness and amazing shine to my parched tresses.

Fall is a great time of the year to whip up this recipe  Rawbert (as his close friends call) him utilized some of the yummiest ingredients.

Recipe For Hair Vodka

Robert explained that shiny, healthy, gleaming hair reflects best off smooth surfaces.  This means hair which is worn longer and straight will reflect more light than hair which is worn naturally textured.

Regardless, if hair is damaged or dry, it's won't look healthy or have a great shine.  The Hair Vodka mask will help add softness and shine.

Follow the steps below to whip up your own Hair Vodka mask.

Ingredients

1/2 ripe avocado peeled and pitted

2 tablespoons of vodka (any brand will do)

2 tablespoons of honey (I prefer organic but any kind will do as well)

1 egg yolk

Optional:  1-2 drops of an essential oil of your choice to add  nice aroma.  I love to add vanilla, lavender or rosemary.  1-2 drops of Sweet Basil will actually help stimulate hair roots.

Eggs For Mixing Eggs For Mixing

Instructions

In a small to medium sized glass bowl mash the avocado.  Once it's completely mashed, mix in the vodka, honey and egg with a fork.

Continue to mix until you have a creamy mixture.

Apply mixture to freshly shampooed, towel-blotted hair since this mask will penetrate into the hair cuticles better when they are damp.

Pull hair up and wrap in a towel, clean t-shirt or shower cap to prevent the hair mask from dripping everywhere.  Allow the mask to remain on hair for 30 minutes or longer.

Note:  If you're concerned about the raw egg, apply the mixture while wearing plastic gloves.  Be sure to keep the mask out of your face and/or mouth and wash hands after applying.

Be careful, when applying the mask, not to use fingernails since they may leave tiny microscopic tears in the surface of the scalp which can cause some long term challenges.

Shampoo In The Shower Shampoo In The Shower

Rinse completely from hair with a warm water spray.  Apply a diluted shampoo mixture.  Rinse well.  Finish with a cool/cold water rinse to enhance shimmer and shine.  If possible, allow hair to air dry for added benefit.

Summary- Hair Vodka

When I visit Robert in his Los Angeles house in the hills, I am amazed by all the spectacular fruits and vegetables he keeps for his various hair recipes.  While I love a lot of his different recipes the Hair Vodka mask is my favorite.  It's a great way to drink without  a hangover.

Even better, your hair looks and feels fantastic.

Note:  While this recipe works for the majority of people who try it, like most hair products and recipes, it may not work for everyone. If your hair is fine or thin the mask may be too moisturizing an cause your strands to flatten.  The recipe is ideal for people with coarse, dry, naturally textured or damaged strands.

If you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients you may wish to pass on whipping up this hair mask or discuss it first with your family physician.  Always exercise care when working with raw eggs or similar products.
