Braids : Easy Step-By-Step Hairstyles

by Mary Beth Janssen-Fleischman

This 128 page fully illustrated book has step-by-step directions and how-to photographs of a wide range or braided hairstyles. What I liked most about this book is that there are styles for all types of hair. There are styles for children and adults, styles for busy lifestyles, career looks and elegant evening looks. There are also styles for woman and girls of color.

This book builds on the concept of basic braiding techniques. With this concept, the basic braids are explained in the first part of the book. The overbraid and underbraid is described along with the inverted braid, the projected braid and the four-strand braid. Twists and two-strand braids are also explained.

With each explanation, a photo or series of photos is included. The technique of spiral wrapping is explained and a series of photos are included with each step. Beaded finishes are also demonstrated. There are 25 different braid designs. I tried several of the braids and found the instructions to be fairly detailed. In some cases I had trouble trying to braid and read from the book at the same time. This called for a second pair of eyes to explain the technique. In some cases it is more helpful if someone else can do the braiding for you while you read the instructions to them. With enough practice I think anyone can accomplish most if not all of the braids in the book.

This braiding book is a good selection. If nothing else you will love all the great photos of the women. Some even have bra length or longer hair.

Unfortunately there are no photos of ladies with hair to their waists or below. This is understandable since hair that is extra long requires special instructions for braiding.
