Term: Abraded Scalp

This is the term used to describe a human scalp which has any type of abrasions, cuts, scratches or open sores present. In the practice of cosmetology, it is never recommended that any type of hair or scalp treatments be undertaken to a person with an abraded scalp. An abraded scalp can occur for a number of reasons ranging from a simple scratch from a rough fingernail to a series of abrasions which may have occured from scalp disorders, diseases or other injuries. Cosmetology students are warned to examine the scalps of all potential hair clients to make sure there is no sign of an abraded scalp condition since applying any type of chemical treatments can cause potential complications.

Daily Hair Tip
Visit your hairstylist on a regular basis. Regular trims are essential for great-looking hair. Short hair should be trimmed approximately every 4-6 weeks, medium length hair 6-8 weeks and long hair needs to be trimmed every 8-10 weeks.
