Term: Bee Rear End Bun

This is also known in long hair circles as the "bee butt bun". To effectively create a bee butt or bee end bun you need hair that is at least to the middle of your back of longer since the essence of the finished bun involves multi-twisting and layering of the hair.

General Instructions

Use a "hair friendly" or boar's bristle brush on all of your strands making sure to smooth out any tangles or knots. Using your hands, smooth hair back while pulling it gently back from the face as if you were creating a low positioned or just about the nape of the neck level ponytail. Capture the new pony with a "hair friendly" Blax or bungee band. Using your fingers, lift the new pony at the ends and hold out in a 45 degree angle from the head. Slow twist the entire ponytail in a clockwise direction until the entire tail has been completely twisted. Using your hands, slowly wrap the newly twisted ponyhair into a bun, Carefully wrap each new layer underneath the one before it. Continue wrapping each layer until you reach the end or the "tail" of the pony. As you wrap, you can use your fingers to gently pull each new layer to give the bun a longer or elongated shape just like the butt of a bee. Once you have reached the "tail" of the pony, wrap the final bun layer at the original base of the bun. Pin well with bobby pins in the same color as your hair.

There are several options besides using bobby pins to secure. Some long hair wearers will use two hairsticks and insert than in a large X formulation to hold the new bun in place. Some will NOT initially secure the bun but will wrap a wide pony elastic or "scrunchie" around the finished base of your bun to secure. Insert the hairsticks at the 10 and 2 clock positions. Weave each stick through the finished bun to completely secure. Other options include using a large Condor style clip to hold the new bun in place against the scalp. Experiment and play to find the best way to secure the bun for your personal needs.
