Term: Closet Hairstylist

A closet hairstylist or closet hairdresser is a hair consumer who is tempted to take hair cutting, coloring, styling or chemical processing into their own hands.

The Silver/Gray Beauty Book by Tony Ray & Angela Hynes makes a specific reference to the term "closet hairdresser" which they define as "the temptation to take matters literally into your own hands" with regard to cutting, coloring or perming hair.

The term Closet Hairstylist may still be used by hair professionals in some settings.

Daily Hair Tip
Visit your hairstylist on a regular basis. Regular trims are essential for great-looking hair. Short hair should be trimmed approximately every 4-6 weeks, medium length hair 6-8 weeks and long hair needs to be trimmed every 8-10 weeks.
