Term: Hair Steaming

Hair steaming is a processing used to reset the curl pattern in some synthetic wigs or hairpieces. Depending upon the manufacturer and the type of hair utilized in a wig or hairpiece, the texture may be changed by setting the wig in traditional hair rollers or clips, and then using a hand-held clothing steamer to steam the curls into the wig or hairpiece. After steaming the curls it is suggested that the fiber be allowed to completely cool before removing the rollers and/or pins. It should be noted that each manufacturer of wigs usually provide specific instructions whether hair may be steamed or altered in any way by heat.
