Scoop

First bit of scoop is for you GINA GERSHON fans out there.  If you've at least caught a preview of her new ABC show "Snoops" (yet ANOTHER David E. Kelley show), you've probably noticed that her hair is looking terrific lately.  In fact, you may be lamenting to yourself, "I'd love to get my hair cut like that, if only I knew how it was done.  Where oh where could I possibly find out?"  Well, right here, of course!  Ok, more correctly, at FashionDish where I found this little tidbit, but you're reading it here, aren't you?  Anyway, here's what her stylist, Nathan Sager said:

"It’s over-layered hair," says the co-owner of the new Sager French salon on Robertson Boulevard. Instead of cutting the standard levels around the chin and neck, he layered the top level of Gershon’s hair, creating locks that swerve around her face. "Gina has choppy, jagged bangs to expose her cheeks," he explains. Gina’s look calls for straightening her naturally curly hair. Nathan says that’s essential for her character, a stylish, rules-breaking private investigator who wears orange-tinted glasses when threatening her target. "Curls give a more romantic image. As a PI, she needed a harder look."  But not necessarily the same as other women in law enforcement. "It’s not the 'X-Files' or 'Ally McBeal.'  She’s more funky and casual." Nathan reports he’s already hearing from women who would like Gershon’s haircut—but the star’s already asked him, "You’re not going to give this to anyone else--right?"
"Uh...no, Gina.  Of course not.  Why would I do that?  Oh, by the way, you didn't get a good look at that woman who left just before you, did you?  Good, good.  Why?  No reason."  Heh heh.

Way back last fall, I reported on ANGIE EVERHART's quest to reclaim her famed red tresses after rather unceremoniously and spontaneously lopping them off at a magazine shoot.  Pantene even built an ad campaign around Angie's use of their product to supposedly speed the growth process.  At the time of the cut, she said she did it to to get away from her "model" image to be taken more seriously as an actress.

That didn't explain, however, why she almost immediately started to grow it back out (even wearing extensions for some appearances and roles).

So what was the real story?

Well, in the current issue of Complete Woman magazine (as opposed to what?  "Incomplete Woman"?), she's asked...

CW: We remember when you had your hair cut and Pantene created an ad especially designed with images of you in your short hair and your long hair.  Why the sudden change?

AE: I've always been the long, red-haired girl and I just needed a change.  I was up to doing some crazy stuff personally - being married and unhappy.  Then I just cut it off.  I don't know why!

CW: Would you ever go short again?

AE (combined from a couple of responses): I don't think so, but I'm never going to say never.  I love having long hair.  I think there are short-haired girls and there are long-haired girls.  Word of advice to women: If you're fighting with you husband, don't cut your hair.

Hey, no kidding.  I thought that was one of those basic rules that all women knew.  Guess not, huh?  Anyway, later in the article, they quiz Angie on her beauty secrets.  This is what she said when asked about her hair:
CW: What products do you use?

AE: When Pantene sends me products, I use them.  I love the smell of Finesse.  Just recently I started using John Sahag's hair care products which are wonderful.  John's the man who cuts my hair.  I call him my hair god.  Anybody who wants their hair cut like mine should go to John Sahag.  After my short-hair experience, I won't let anybody else cut my hair.

Quick translation for those of you playing at home: "I use Pantene because I have a contract with them and boxes of it keep showing up.  Finesse smells great, but I wouldn't let it near my hair.  When the Procter & Gamble Police aren't watching, the stuff I REALLY use is John Sahag's line."  Oh, and thanks to Dave U. for the scans of the article.

Been wondering why JENNIFER ANISTON continues to wear her hair stick straight on "Friends", while she seems to favor her natural waves while in public?  According to Mr. Showbiz (quoting from W magazine), so does Jennifer.  Deflecting a question on her weight, Jennifer said...

If anything's unhealthy, she says, it's her naturally wavy hair, which has been ironed within an inch of its life. Aniston says that the famous 'Rachel' 'do nearly destroyed her hair. "I had dead, trashed, burnt hair; they ironed it so much for the show. I'm trying to let them go with my natural wave this season." Since she's been the champion of the current ultra-flat, ironed look, also much copied, we imagine her hair is still far from healthy. In the W cover story, Aniston's hair is its natural wavy self and looks more like Sarah Jessica Parker's locks.
You know, there's something fundamentally wrong when one of the people supposedly setting a fashion trend doesn't even like the trend she is being forced to set.  Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?

Finally, what may qualify as my first true bit of unpublished scoopage since my tidbit on Sandra Bullock's feelings about cutting her hair for "Demolition Man" way back in my very first column.  Last month, I commented rather harshly on BARBARA HERSHEY's current hairstyle calling it a "horribly unflattering, triangular shaped haystack of red waves" and even insinuating (though, not seriously) that it is a wig.  Well, an LA reader, who I shall keep anonymous, wrote me to say that I may not be that far off after all...

I wanted to tell you that I have a friend who has seen Barbara Hershey come in to work repeatedly the last few weeks. Apparently, she has all her hair tucked in to a little surgeon's hat (I can picture it but can't describe it). She spends excessive amounts of time fiddling with and worrying about her wigs. My friend suspects that she has very little hair tucked into that hat and that the wigs are her "real" hair. I don't know if we'll ever know for sure, but it's consistent with what you've been thinking.
Whatta ya know.  I didn't really believe it was a wig and not sure I do now, but this is certainly intriguing information, isn't it?  I must be even better than I thought I was at this. J

Fleature: Joely Fisher's Haircut

Hopefully you're not tired of hearing about this yet, though I suspect you may be getting close since I've now reported on it in some way or another in two previous columns.  At first, back in July, I didn't think she had cut it, even though I had found a picture of the new 'do.  Finally convinced, I was frustrated that I couldn't find a GOOD picture of the layered, curly bob.  Last month I found a couple of better photos, but still nothing to write home about.  Well, I think I can now finally put this to bed.

Thanks to Dan P., I have an article on the entire cut, as covered in the October issue of InStyle magazine.  Rather than trying to transcribe it, which due to the format wouldn't be all that easy, I've decided to include the full size scans of the actual article.  To get to each page, click on the thumbnail of it below.  I will warn you that the full pages are large (188Kb, 232Kb, and 207Kb respectively), so they will take a while to download on slower connections.  I do, however, think that if you have the time to do it, it's definitely worth the effort.  Then again, I wouldn't have included them if I thought it was a waste of time, now would I?  Enjoy.
