Of course I’m joking, but in reality there’s a lot of misinformation about the importance of calcium for healthy hair and the avoidance of hair loss. What’s the real answer? Calcium plays a part in the growth of healthy hair because its part of the big picture of incorporating a well-balanced nutritional plan into any hair growth or hair loss prevention program. If you’re lactose intolerant or can’t have dairy for some reason the following non-diary foods can provide the calcium your body needs for a well-balanced nutritional program: bone meal, clams, olives, tuna, salmon, sardines, whole wheat products, string beans, pecans, walnuts, oysters, mustard greens, turnip tops, spinach, hazelnuts, broccoli, molasses, leeks, cabbage, parsnips, citrus fruits, all dark green vegetables, collard and dandelion greens, celery, okra, peas, lima beans, lettuce, dates, soybeans, lemons, peanuts, brown rice, eggs, rye, raisins, dried prunes, almonds, kale, legumes, beans, dried figs, watercress, cauliflower, lentils, limes and beet greens. Caffeine, chocolate and rhubarb are also known to rob the body of calcium. Ingredients Helping Body Properly Absorb Calcium Boron, phosporous, magnesium and Vitamin C will help the body properly absorb calcium. Which is why some people drink a powdered mix of magnesium and calcium blended together. If you suffer from ongoing candida or yeast challenges brewers yeast should not be utilized as a source of calcium although many people without candida or yeast issues use brewers yeast as a good source. Plant Food Rich In Calcium Your hair isn’t the only thing that benefits from a calcium boost. Houseplants also need calcium to grow big and strong leaves and roots. Give your houseplants a much needed calcium kick by feeding them the cooled calcium-rich water that is left over after boiling eggs. Take the eggs out of the water and when it is cool, pour onto the soil of your favorite plants. If you prefer a richer mixture, peel the eggs and cover the shells in a jar with cool water. Allow the shells to remain in the water for up to a week and then strain out the shells and water your plants with the mixture. Some people actually will leave the eggshells in the water and pour onto the plant dirt. While this may give a little bit more calcium, in some cases it may attract bugs or ants to the soil. To be safe you may wish to remove the shells.
Besides providing assistance to the hair in terms of enhancing growth, slowing loss and even enriching houseplants, calcium may actually influence mortality risk in many ways.
