Overnight Movie Star Success

What do Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Viola Davis, Emily Blunt, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Miranda Richardon and Tilda Swinton have in common?

Yes, of course they are all actresses.  Even more significantly, many have either been nominated for Oscar Awards or have won significant acting award and plum acting roles in films that were critically acclaimed.

Meryl Streep Is The Common Demoninator

The key point is that all of the actresses I have listed were all co-stars with superstar Meryl Streep.

Lindsay Lohan Is The Exception To The Rule

Even the actresses who did not go on to be nominated for awards either became media darlings and/or their careers skyrocketed. Well except for Linds Lohan who performed with Meryl on Prairie Home Companion where she behaved badly.

Unlike Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams and Viola Davis, Lindsay's movie career has tanked, but unlike all the other actresses mentioned, reports indicated Lindsay was difficult during the filming of the movie.

Meryl Streep And Emily Blunt

A classic case of Meryl Streep being a good luck acting charm is the film The Devil Wore Prada in 2006.  Meryl co-starred with Anna Hathaway and relative newcomer Emily Blunt.  Meryl was nominated for several Best Actress awards including an Oscar, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.  She won for the Golden Globes.

Newcomer Emily Blunt also was nominated for a BAFTA as well as a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work with Meryl.  Sadly, Emily Blunt did not win.  Anne was not nominated for any awards even though she had a majority of film time.

Anne Hathaway - Devil Wore Prada With Meryl Streep

However, after doing Devil Wore Prada with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway's career appeared to catch fire and explode right before her fan's eyes.  After doing Get Smart, Anne nabbed the great part of Kym in Rachel Getting Married.

The young actress knocked it out of the park and was nominated for a Best Actress Award for the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and The Oscars.  She tied for The Critics Choice Awards with Meryl for her role in Doubt.

Anne also won a CFCA award and an NBR award, to name a few of the awards she nabbed for her work.

Even though the lovely Ms. Hathaway didn't win the Golden Globe or the SAG, she has received many honors for her acting and her career is expected to become even more successful than it already is.  In addition, many insiders predict Anne will be offered more serious roles which give her a better change in the near future of winning the big awards.

Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore And Meryl Streep In The Hours

Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore were in the film The Hours with Meryl Streep in 2002.  Nicole Kidman was nominated and won for Best Actress in a Leading Role.  Up to that point she the Oscar had been out of her grasp.

Although she didn't win the Oscar that year for Best Supporting Actress, Julianne Moore was also nominated for several major awards for her work with Nicole and Meryl.

Julianne Moore's career caught on fire after The Hours and she went on to nab some great acting roles.

Miranda Richardon and Tilda Swinton

Meryl Streep also co-starred with Miranda and Tilda and shortly after working with these two actresses, their careers caught fire with both winning award nominated roles and Tilda winning the Oscar.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried was an unknown actress who co-starred on HBO's Big Love before she won the plum role of Meryl Streep's daughter in Mama Mia.  Since the amazing success of that film, Amanda's career has taken off and she has beat out several actresses for some serious films. In fact, it was recently reported Amanda beat out none other than Lindsay Lohan for a major role in the new film - A Woman of No Importance which is expected to generate award buzz due to the award winning cast.

Is it a coincidence that Amanda nabbed that plum role just shortly after working with Meryl?

Viola Davis

At the recent SAG Awards when Meryl won for Best Actress in Doubt she made a point of thanking actress Viola Davis and saying "someone please give this wonderful actress a movie".  What better recommendation could there be than that?

Keep your eyes on Viola Davis and Amy Adams who both worked with Meryl in Doubt and whom she has specifically thanked for their work with her in more than one recent speech.
