HairBoutique.com Road Trip To Viceroy Hotel - Palm Springs

As I reported recently, the HairBoutique.com Road Trip Team consisting of myself and Marketing Director Edan Kencayd recently covered the world famous Cosmoprof 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While we were there we also attended and covered the Internationally known NAHA 2009 hair awards.

We even had the honor of interviewing some of the impressive winners.

For some reason when Edan and I go on HairBoutique Road Trips to report on hair, beauty and fashion events, crazy things often happen.  Such was the case with our recent trip to Cosmoprof.

Due to a weird air travel snafu we found ourselves flying to Palm Springs, California instead of Las Vegas.  From Palm Springs we had to drive almost six hours to Las Vegas in the middle of pitch black desert in a sparkling white Lincoln Town Car with an extended wheel base.  Hey, I told you weird things happen to us on our HairBoutique Road Trips.

Since we had to also fly back to Dallas by way of Palm Springs,  we decided to give ourselves a little breathing room after our desert trip.

We made advance plans to stay over in a famous Palm Springs desert resort the night before our flight back.

After a long and very hot car trip from Las Vegas to the beautiful California resort town we checked into the famous Viceroy Hotel which is owned by the Kor Hotel Group.

Edan and I decided to stay at the Viceroy because it is considered to be one of the most distinctive boutique resort and spa destination in Southern California.

Designed in a modern interpretation of the Hollywood Regency style, Viceroy Palm Springs Resort and Spa features luxury accommodations with private villas, artistically manicured grounds and three refreshing pools.  The Viceroy definitely honors its reputation as offering a luxurious Palm Springs spa vacation getaway, special event, or intimate wedding celebration.

Intimate & Luxurious Hideaway

When we first pulled up to the Viceroy Hotel on South Belardo Road it wasn't immediately obvious we had arrived.  Maybe because there is so much lush foliage covering the entrance.  Or maybe because the resort in the Hollywood Regency era was famous for being a serene hideaway from the public eye.

We eventually spotted the elegant entrance complete with a uniformed Valet to help us with our bags and our rental car.

Even though it was 116 degrees in Palm Springs (with a heat index of 120+) the Valet was very welcoming and polite.  He guided us into the exquisite lobby which contained a sleek white tile floor, pristine white walls and check-in counter and splashes of vibrant yellow and golds.  I felt like I had just stepped into a magnificent Old Hollywood movie set.

Home To Old Hollywood Royalty

Indeed, The Viceroy Hotel has been home to many of the Old Hollywood's royalty over the years including such stars as Clark Gable, Ann Miller, Tyrone Power, Joan Crawford, Bing Crosby and President Franklin Roosevelt.

After we were greeted and check into our rooms by a very pleasant but extremely professional staff we were led through the rest of the resort and past opulent accommodations bordering three distinctic courtyard settings.

Although we opted for a single room with French doors leading just steps to an inviting pool, the resort also includes expansive suites, and private villas with full parlors, fireplaces, and private whirlpool.

Facing A Serene Pool

Our room was off the Citron Courtyard facing one of the Pools and just steps from the famous Citron Restaurant and Bar which adjoins the reception area by means of a hallway.

Although the Viceroy is not a brand new hotel, it's full of beauty, charm, peace and quiet.  At this point in the trip after days of non-stop interviews and walking miles through Cosmoprof's hair and beauty exhibitor's booths I was in need of R&R.  The Viceroy was the perfect choice.

Room Service - A Gourmet Delight

Too tired to dress for dinner and too hot too eat more than a simple fare, Edan and I decided to snack off the room service menu.  We ordered a pitcher of iced tea with "extra ice", some fruit sorbet and the famous Viceroy home made cookies.  The snacks arrived on a beautifully arranged tray with china plates and crystal glasses.

The cookies were still warm from the oven and consisted of a mix of chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and sugar cookies.  Three perfectly cooled hand crafted fruit sorbets were nestled in a beautiful bowl kept cool by the extra ice on the tray.

Any Regrets?

If I had to confess any regrets about my stay at The Viceroy I would say my stay was way too short.  Due to my exhaustion at the end of a grueling trip I didn't have the time nor the energy to fully enjoy this magnificent resort.

I did find the king sized bed to be plush and restful, the shower to have a powerful shower head with varying temperatures of water for my weary bones and the bathroom amenities to be well appointed.

Besides a very welcoming and professional staff, a gorgeous setting, a beautifully designed room and lots of solitude, I found the Viceroy a wonderful oasis.  I think I could definitely get used to a much longer visit.

Do I recommend The Viceroy Palm Springs?  I would definitely give it 4.5 stars out of a possible 5.  I'm sure if I had stayed long enough to experience the highly renowned spa and hang out in the poolside cabanas I would probably give this charming and elegant desert retreat a full blown 5.

If you do manage to add a stay to your travel itinerary be sure to experience as much of this fabulous resort as possible.  However, you might want to go when it's a little cooler than 116 degrees.  But hey, when it comes to heat, I can be a bit of a wilting violet.

Kudos to The Viceroy Hotel in Palm Springs, California for being a class act.

If you set your hair on hot rollers, always wait until the rollers have cooled completely before taking them out of your hair.
