David Rockwell Returns as Production Designer for Oscar's Show

Beverly Hills, CA - For the second consecutive year, David Rockwell will serve as production designer for the 82nd Academy Awards, Oscar telecast producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic announced today.

"We loved the look and feel that David created for the Oscar show last year" said Mechanic. "As soon as we signed on as producers, Adam and I knew that we wanted to work with him for our show."

"David is so creative and has such a great big-picture approach to set design said Shankman. I'm beyond excited to be collaborating with him on the Oscars."

Rockwell's firm designed the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland complex, so he brings with him a deep familiarity with the venue.

In addition to the 81st Academy Awards, his set design work includes the Broadway productions of Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Rocky Horror Show” as well as the upcoming Catch Me If You Can, Elf and Houdini.

Other projects designed by Rockwell Group include a free-standing building for Cirque du Soleil at Walt Disney World in Florida; the Elinor Bunin-Munroe Film Center at Lincoln Center in New York; the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco; the restaurant and public spaces for Hotel Bel Air; plus dozens of restaurants and several hotels and retail spaces.

Work is currently underway on the Imagination Playground in Lower Manhattan, scheduled to open in 2010.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2009 will be presented on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood, Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
