Introduction - How Calcium Helps Hair Growth, Prevents Hair Loss And Enriches Your Houseplants

If you do a search on the web about the importance of calcium for healthy hair, you will find enough contradictions to make you want to pull your hair out.  Of course I'm joking, but in reality there's a lot of misinformation about the importance of calcium for healthy hair and the avoidance of hair loss.

What's the real answer?  Calcium plays a part in the growth of healthy hair because its part of the big picture of incorporating a well-balanced nutritional plan into any hair growth or hair loss prevention program.  When the HairTopia hair vitamin program was created, calcium was one listed as a key ingredient.

Calcium alone is not the secret hair bullet which will instantly stop hair loss or grow six inches of hair overnight.  However, if there is a calcium imbalance it can definitely have an impact on the growth of healthy hair.

Should you talk calcium pills?  If your physician or nutritional consultant recommends it, by all means you should.

Taking calcium pills for the primary purpose of growing hair or preventing hair loss may be much less beneficial than if you incorporate calcium rich foods into your daily diet.

The combination of eating calcium rich foods along with taking vitamins or hair vitamins like HairTopia hair vitamins  which contain calcium is much more beneficial for your hair, skin, nails and teeth.

Other benefits of calcium

Besides a general benefit for hair, skin, nails and teeth, a proper balance of calcium will prevent a range of cramps and spasms.  It is also thought to minimize the risk of stroke in some cases while regulating heart beat and blood clotting.

It's thought in some cases that calcium may actually retard the growth of some tumors.  It can also help in cases of spastic colon or chronic constipation and helps build strong muscles and relieve all types of arthritis and muscle stiffness.

Of course not all people benefit the same way from calcium, but it's certainly important in the grand scheme of good health and great bones, teeth and hair.

Vitamin And Food Mineral Choices Which Are Rich In Calcium

Milk and diary products such as cheese and yogurt are rich in calcium although most experts recommend raw milk (not conventional, pasteurized milk) and other raw dairy products.  One of the downsides of pasteurization is that it renders much of the calcium contained in raw milk insoluble, so it is best to drink raw milk if you want to absorb its calcium.

Note:  There is some controversy over the wisdom of drinking unpasteurized milk.  Before you do, be sure to do your research and talk with your primary health care provider.

If you're lactose intolerant or can't have dairy for some reason the following non-diary foods can provide the calcium your body needs for a well-balanced nutritional program:

bone meal, clams, olives, tuna, salmon, sardines, whole wheat products, string beans, pecans, walnuts, oysters, mustard greens, turnip tops, spinach, hazelnuts, broccoli, molasses, leeks, cabbage, parsnips, citrus fruits, all dark green vegetables, collard and dandelion greens, celery, okra, peas, lima beans, lettuce, dates, soybeans, lemons, peanuts, brown rice, eggs, rye, raisins, dried prunes, almonds, kale, legumes, beans, dried figs, watercress, cauliflower, lentils, limes and beet greens.

Calcium Blockers - Caffeine, Chocolate, Rhubard

Studies have shown that mineral oil may block calcium from being absorbed into the body.  Caffeine, chocolate and rhubarb are also known to rob the body of calcium.

Ingredients Helping Body Properly Absorb Calcium

Fresh Eggs Fresh Eggs

Boron, phosporous, magnesium and Vitamin C will help the body properly absorb calcium.  Which is why some people drink a powdered mix of magnesium and calcium blended together.

If you suffer from ongoing candida or yeast challenges brewers yeast should not be utilized as a source of calcium although many people without candida or yeast issues use brewers yeast as a good source.

As an interesting side note for those interested in astrology, calcium is thought to be tied to Mercury in natal, progressed or transit charts.

Plant Food Rich In Calcium

Your hair isn't the only thing that benefits from a calcium boost.  Houseplants also need calcium to grow big and strong leaves and roots.

Give your houseplants a much needed calcium kick by feeding them the cooled calcium-rich water that is left over after boiling eggs.  Take the eggs out of the water and when it is cool, pour onto the soil of your favorite plants.

If you prefer a richer mixture, peel the eggs and cover the shells in a jar with cool water.  Allow the shells to remain in the water for up to a week and then strain out the shells and water your plants with the mixture.

Some people actually will leave the eggshells in the water and pour onto the plant dirt.  While this may give a little bit more calcium, in some cases it may attract bugs or ants to the soil.  To be safe you may wish to remove the shells.

Summary - How Calcium Helps Hair Growth, Prevents Hair Loss And Enriches Your Houseplants

Besides providing assistance to the hair in terms of enhancing growth, slowing loss and even enriching houseplants, calcium may actually influence mortality risk in many ways.  It has been show to offer positive results in reducing blood pressure, cholesterol, or even high blood sugar levels.
