V-Shaped Haircut Gets Little Boy In Hot Water In Cheshire England

An eight year old Cheshire, England schoolboy, Jack Hallam, caused a hair flap when he appeared at school with a V-shape shaved into the back of his head at St. Bridget's Primary school in Fearnhead.

Although the V-shaped haircut was his request of his parents because he thought it looked cool when he saw it on older boys,  it took four entire days before the teachers at his school even noticed the V shape at the back of Jack's head.

The little boy's befuddled parents were shocked when the school rang them up and told them Jack had to have another hair chop or risk being suspended from school.

The point Jack's parents made were that it took four days for anyone to notice the V shape so how radical, distracting or upsetting could it really be?  And how could having a V shaved into the back of his head impact Jack's ability to be a good student?

Even more interesting, one of the school's teaching assistants is allowed to come to school with bright pink hair.  Is this a double standard?  Apparently St. Bridget's told Jack's parents it's not inappropriate for the teaching assistant but Jack's hairstyle violates school policy on student's hairstyles.

Usually when schools suspend students for inappropriate hairstyles the reason provided is that it is a distraction to the other students or teaches in the school.  But little Jack's haircut, as his parents pointed out, was obviously not that radical since it took so long for anyone to even notice.

Rather than risk Jack from being suspended, he was hauled off to the barber for another haircut. Jack's parents feared if he got suspended than that would be an action which would definitely impact his education.

The morale of the story?  Always check the rules before doing anything radical to your hair.
