Will Kim Kardashian Return Wedding Gifts?
When Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries married they received a mountain of expensive wedding gifts. In fact, according to various media reports Kim and Kris registered for over $172,000 worth of gifts at Geary's in Beverly Hills.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians camera crew was on hand to film the visit to Geary's to complete the gift registry. In that particular episode Kim was accompanied by her mom Kris Jenner (Kardashian) and her future husband Kris, who she's now divorcing was late.f
Kris Humphries Was Late To Geary's To Register For Wedding Gifts
Kim called Humphries from her cell while she was at Geary's with her mom and told him he was disrepectful for being late because a lot of people were waiting on him, including her mom who reportedly cancelled other appointments in order to accommodate the couple.
Kardashian and Humphries registered for amazing bling including $38,000 worth of place settings by Buccellati and a Baccarate crystal vase valued at nearly $8,000.
Emily Post Suggested The Wedding Gifts Should Be Returned
Now that Kardashian has filed for divorce after just 72 days of marriage, formal etiquette (Emily Post) dictates that the mountain of gifts be returned to the wedding guests along with a handwritten note. When a marriage is as brief as Kardashian and Humphries was, the proper protocol is to return all the wedding gifts and gifts surrounding the wedding. Does that include bridal shower gifts as well?
Etiquette suggests that the bride return the gifts from her side of the family and the groom return the gifts from his side. Emily Post suggests that monogrammed or obviously used items should not be returned.
Although many bought into the heavily televised fairy tale, many knew that it was all arranged to promote the Kardashian brand. Any doubts whether Kim actually cared about Kris Humphries were dashed when Humphries reported the he learned about their break-up via TMZ and not from Kim.
Returning The 20-Karate Engagement Ring?
And what about the 20-karate engagement ring? Since Kim did follow upon the engagement and marry Humphries etiquette says that unless the engagement ring is a family heirloom, the bride can keep the ring.
Legally the ring now belongs to the bride. However, many feel that after such a short marriage the right thing for Kim to do would be to return the engagement and wedding rings to Humphries.
There were some rumors at the time Kim received her engagement ring that Humphries neither picked it out or paid for it.
If that's the case, Kim may be free and clear to keep the diamond. However she may wish to have the ginormous diamond reset into a necklace. At least that's what Elizabeth Taylor would've done.
Kim's lavish fairytale wedding earned her an estimated $17 million. There's no doubt she’ll be able to spin her divorce into gold too with exclusive magazine covers, a few books and even maybe Kim will become a new celebrity divorce advisor. Why not?
