Short hair is back in fashion. Led by hairstyles on the latest runways and Red Carpets, hair consumers are adopting everything from variations of the original "Rachel" worn by Jennifer Aniston to Textured Short Hair Crops.

Even actresses who are currently growing out their tresses are adopting "faux" short hair looks by combining short fringes with cute chignons softly pulled behind their ears to give the illusion of short hair.

Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell recently demonstrated how to have a short hair look with actual longer tresses.

Texture definitely comes into play with many of the new short bobs, chops and textured crops.

Halle Berry's short style from 2001 that rocked the hair world has become popular again.

One of the great advantages of a croppy chop is that it can be worn a variety of ways.

Since the introduction of the revolutionary new snap on hair pieces from Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves' HairDo line, short haired people can instantly morph to much longer lengths. It's truly a hair miracle.

Short hair crops can be worn in a variety of ways including:

1. Messy tousled style 2. Edgy and sexy 3. Finger waved 4. With an add-on chignon 5. Instantly longer with clip-on hair 6. With a POP ponytail or braid 7. Dressed up with a variety of short hair friendly hair accessories. 8. With altered texture (straight to wavy and curly or reversed).

Short Hair Crop Look #1 - Messy Undone Style

1. Shampoo hair, apply appropriate rinse-out conditioners and finish with cool water rinse.

2. Towel blot to remove excess moisture.

3. Apply a hair product cocktail (depending on your hair type, texture and condition) consisting of leave-in conditioner mixed with anti-frizz product. If your hair is naturally curly or wavy you may also wish to use a straightening balm for the last step.

4. Blow dry hair straight using a "mini" flat or paddle brush. If you prefer spot body around the roots, use a boar's head round brush for root life and movement.

5. Once hair is 100% dry, backcomb the crown area to create lots of height. Gently smooth down the teased area.

6. Apply a light styling cream, pomade or shine serum. Work the product into the palms of your hands and then rake with your fingers from the ears down to the ends (avoid the roots to eliminate danger of oil buildup).

7. Create a messy side part using your fingers or the long tail of a comb.

8. Pull a few strands out along the perimeter of your style and tousle. Use fingers to gently tousle the rest of your hair to give an undone finish.

Finish with a light spritz of hairspray if you wish.

4. Blow dry hair straight using a "mini" flat or paddle brush. If you prefer spot body around the roots, use a boar's head round brush for root life and movement.

5. Once hair is 100% dry spritz hair with a styling product or hairspray.

6. Use a 1/4" barrel curling iron (hot rollers can be substituted but use smallest rollers in the set).

Separate hair into small 1/4 to 1/2" sections. Bend each section carefully around the barrel for a few seconds. Release and let new texture cool.

Note: Remember the smaller the hair sections curled the tighter the curls.

7. When hair has been completely curled and cooled, use fingers to arrange curls into a soft sexy look.

8. Finish with a light blast of hairspray.

7. Once you reach the end of each section, fasten through the middle using a bobby pin.

Other Short Crop Options: Altered Textures

A great option is to maximize your natural hair texture. If your hair is naturally wavy with lots of bend, play with scrunching it to get lots of wild texture.

If you hair is naturally straight, add a shine spray or serum and wear hair tucked behind your ears in a sleek shimming finish.

For a great hair style change-up, select the opposite texture look. Straighten wavy or curly hair by blow drying straight an finishing with a straightening iron. For straight hair, add texture by plaiting tiny braids throughout the hair and letting it air-dry.

In a hurry? Play with baby barrettes, hair clips or skinny headbands.

Summary

Short hair is back in the limelight. Textured crops are popular along with a myriad of bob and choppy short styles.

One of the great advantages of short hairstyles is that with the recent introduction of add-on hair, short can go long in literally a few minutes with no muss and fuss.

Even better, a choppy textured crop can be worn in a variety of options from messy, undone and very chic to sleek and slick.

If you're a short hair fan it's your time to shine.
