David Spade Dishes On Daddyhood

When David Spade visits Ellen Degeneres they often talk about a wide range of topics including some very personal issues.  Maybe it's because they have a long history of working the stand-up circuit together in the "old days" or maybe because they are good friends as well.

Regardless of the reasons in an Ellen show in April of 2009 she asked David Spade about his new baby daughter (Harper who was 7 months at the time but was born August 26, 2008 in Missouri) and whether David is with the mother of the baby.

Up until this point David Spade had not publicly discussed his new role as a father or the sequence of events behind the pregnancy although he confirmed his paternity in September of 2008 shortly after Harper's birth.

David who dated Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace was reportedly shocked when Jillian became unexpectedly pregnant and decided to keep the baby.  Currently the baby lives in Missouri with her mom.

When asked if he was with the mother of the baby David told Ellen "no - it was a shocking turn of events.  But alright."  He told Ellen "it's going well, I'm getting used to it (being a father) and it's getting (easier)."

David said about his daughter "she's kinda starting to know - not really who I am yet but she's getting there - but I'm going out to see her next month. And it will start up more when she's more and get her out this way...that kind of thing."

He joked of the recent photo of Harper with a cell phone, "I gave her a cell phone for dinner.  That's an action shot!"

It's always amazing how Ellen is able to get David to discuss such private and personal topics on her show, which is why I make it a point to watch David when he appears.
