Brooke Burns Promises Vampire Fantasy Hair Art

Keeping it all in the family, NBC which owns Bravo (Shear Genius) is getting ready to launch a new reality TV show built around the concept of fantasy hair - “Hair Battle Spectacular” - on sister channel Oxygen.

The show, billed as "Shear Genius on steroids" premieres Tuesday, August 10 (10-11 p.m. ET) on Oxygen

The lovely Brooke Burns is the host and she was warm, gracious and very funny on a conference call today answering questions about the show.

Brooke explained that each of the shows would have a specific theme and besides a wedding theme there is a vampire theme.

I asked Brooke if the cast of Twilight might be showing up as guest judges for that contest.  The lovely actress laughed and said "in a perfect world" they would be great guest judges, but no such luck.

Can you imagine the ratings on that show?  It would definitely be a fantasy contest with RobPat and crew hanging around to judge the results.

“Hair Battle Spectacular” is a competition series that pits 10 of America’s hottest stylists against each other to see who can deliver the biggest and best in fantasy hair design.

The show is billed as part sculpture and part pop art.  Each challenge will require the stylists to create outrageous hair designs that resemble everything from multilayer wedding cakes to toys with movable pieces.  But in the end, only one hairdo will be left standing.

Live And Out Loud

The stylists present their hair creations in classic ‘Hair Battle’ mode: live and out loud with a fully produced, dramatic and stylized performance. After each challenge, the judges: award-winning fantasy hair designer Derek J, celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese and a rotating guest judge, critique the designers on creativity, execution and overall presentation.

In addition to spectacular blow-by-blow drama on the hair battle runway, there is also the day-to-day drama between the co-habitating stylists who fight each week to stay in the battle and win the ultimate prize of $100,000.

"Hair Battle Spectacular" is produced by 3 Ball Productions with JD Roth, Todd Nelson, Adam Greener, and Mike Nichols serving as executive producers.

The new show premieres Tuesday, August 10 (10-11 p.m. ET) on Oxygen.  Set your Tivos and get ready for some more reality TV hair drama.
