According to several media outlets the details of Heigl's exit include:
- Her exit is not yet finalized since ABC Studios and Heigl's reps have not come to a final separation agreement.
- Heigl was scheduled to return to the set of Grey's Anatomy on March 1st to film the five remaining episodes of the season. However, Heigl did not show up as expected.
- Heigl does not currently have a publicist.
- Heigl is not expected to ever return to Grey's Anatomy to film any more episodes. Which means her final appearance on the show which helped make her a star, has already filmed.
Heigl's departure is not unexpected since there has been ongoing bad blood between Heigl and Grey's creator for some time. In the past Heigl (2008) the actress refused to put her name in the running for a best supporting actress Emmy nomination despite her win in 2007.
She claimed at the time she wasn't given Emmy worthy material in 2008 and thought it would make a mockery of the award if she were to be considered.
As expected, the controversy didn't go over so well with Grey's writers and producers, and Heigl's tenure on the show has hung in the balance ever since.
Many fans didn't expect Heigl to even return at all this season. Heigl had filming conflicts due to her appearance in big screen venues. She also adopted a baby girl from Korea in the Fall of 2009 which has taken a lot of her free time.
Fans may be upset because Heigl's character left the show abruptly after being fired from her job as a resident on Grey's.
