Introduction - Hair Home Remedy Problems

Recently yet another email touting amazing links to a myriad of home hair remedies landed in my email.

Since hair is so much a part of my life, this is one keyword which will always get my attention, even if only for a few seconds.

After scanning the recommended page of hair home remedies I realized there are lots of hair home remedy problems.

While it's always nice to experiment with the latest Do-It-Yourself (DIY) hair recipes, there are always some drawbacks, of which some are listed below:

1.  Finding All The Ingredients - Lately some of the DIY home hair remedies I've seen call for everything from Besan to crushed curry leaves.

I keep waiting to find a DIY hair home remedy that calls for Eye of Newt or ashes of toads.

Yes, I'm being a little dramatic, but it seems that some of the hair home remedy problems I personally encounter are figuring out where to find all the ingredients.

2.  No Substitutions - Speaking of exotic ingredients, what do you do when a home hair remedy calls for Eye of Newt and you just don't happen to have any newt parts lying around.  Many of the recipes I find don't offer substitutions.  That will usually deter me from proceeding since if there's no alternative ingredients I give up.

3.  Total Cost Of DIY Ingredients - Sometimes when I look at a hair home remedy which calls for exotic and/or pricey ingredients I realize it would be a lot easier to just buy a pre-blended, pre-packaged commercial alternative.

Giving up on the high cost of making my own deep conditioners is how I discovered the amazing options from Rene Furterer in the first place.

Not only are all the exotic ingredients already blended into the mix, I don't have to worry about using up leftovers.

Sometimes it's actually less expensive to spring for the commercial version than whip it up in your own kitchen.

4.  Kitchen Mess - I hate a kitchen with tons of dirty dishes piled everywhere.  Naturally when you get into the kitchen to whip up the latest DIY hair home remedy it usually involves a wide assortment of glass or ceramic bowels, double boilers, pans, mixing utensils and and an assortment of sponges to wipe up splatters, spills and related liquid explosions.

Sometimes it's just doesn't seem worth it to make a huge mess, soil a bunch of utensils, bowls, dishes and pans, for just a few applications of a DIY conditioner.  I know some people love to tinker and test complicated hair home remedies, but sometimes the end product just doesn't seem worth all the mess.

5.  Time Commitment - Although some DIY hair home remedies are fairly simple and easy to whip up without a lot of pots, pans, utensils and cookware, some do require the use of a food processor, blender, mallet or similar.

If it takes me more than a few minutes to create the latest DIY hydrating shampoo, I just don't have the time to fiddle.  If a DIY hair recipe calls for ingredients I have on hand which can simply be mixed together in a simple bowl, I'm good to go.

The minute the recipe calls for multiple steps, my attention span has fled.

6.  Contamination Concerns - It used to be a no-brainer to crack open an egg and down it in a glass with a few other ingredients as an instant hangover cure.

In today's world, raw eggs may have a wide range of contaminants.  Eggs should never be consumer raw under any circumstances without risk of serious illness.

Since some DIY home hair remedies call for the use of raw egg components such as the yolk, whites or both, I often get a little concerned about possible contamination.

Is it safe to apply a DIY hair remedy to my scalp which contains raw eggs?  It's probably OK, but there's always that possible weird exception.

7.  Proper Storage - Once a DIY recipes is created, if you don't use all of it at one time, what do you do with the left overs?  Not just the ingredients, but the actual formula you just spent so much time heating, blending, whipping and stirring?  Do you discard the leftovers or hope for a few more applications?

If you do decide to store the leftover formulas, do you have the proper amber or blue glass containers ready to hold the precious mixtures?  Or do you whip out those handy Mason or Ball jars with tight lids and store it in the refrigerator?

8.  Missing Ingredients - There's a common theory that every great chef leaves out ingredients or transposes the amounts when sharing recipes.  That way, they avoid giving away their secrets.

Sometimes this is true of DIY hair and beauty recipes.  I know this to be true because I've discovered that not all home recipe experts will share all of the ingredients or may alter the amounts.

Ultimately this means that after you spend all that money on unique ingredients and time in the kitchen, the results may not be what you had hoped for.

Summary - Hair Home Remedy Problems

I'm guilty of being lured by the promise of amazing hair or beauty results when I see advertisements for the latest DIY recipes.

Unfortunately there are hair home remedy problems many people encounter along the path to whipping up that secret magic potion which will transform their tresses into spectacular strands.

If you love to tinker with new recipes, shop for exotic ingredients or wrangle toads from the garden to acquire your ashes of toads, creating DIY hair home remedies may be right up your hair care alley.

However, there are some challenges to creating home hair potions which may make them more trouble then they're ultimately worth.

Each person has to decide for themselves whether it's worth it or not.

Finally, there's always unexpected challenge.  As an example, what happens when a family member innocently mistakes your creamy hair conditioner for a milk shake and downs it before you can stop them?  Yes, this has happened to me.

It's definitely food for thought when undertaking hair home remedies.
