At the end of Season Six on the CW's Vampire Diaries, there was a spectacular vampire wedding between a gorgeous raven haired witch, disguised as a physician and a handsome former vampire, disguised as a human college professor.
If you're confused, just know the stunning vampire wedding ('I'll Wed You in the Golden Summertime') was chock full of witches, vampires and other supernatural guests.
Dr. Jo Laughlin
The beautiful bride, Dr. Jo Laughlin (Josette Parker) portrayed by the dark raven haired Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, was resplendent in a gorgeous white strapless bridal gown.
Contrary to popular opinion, even though she was descended from a long line of witches, she didn't wear a black wedding gown.
The bride was very traditional in her choice of hairstyle, formal veil and her flowers, which were live, not dead, roses.
Vampire Bride Wedding Hair
Her very dark chocolate shoulder length hair was swept up off her beautiful face into a side swept full fringe which showcased her eyes.
The sides of her hair were also swept up into a soft half up/half down type of hairstyle with volume throughout the crown.
The back of her hair was loosely rolled up into a soft romantic chignon.
Her veil was attached halfway between the top of the crown and the top of the rolled chignon.
The Handsome Groom
Her charming groom, Alaric aka Ric, played by Matt Davis looked tall, dark and handsome.
Even though his past history includes being a vampire, dying and being brought back to human form, he wore a traditional wedding suit.
The Maid Of Honor
The maid of honor was vampire Elena Gilbert played by Nina Dobrev.
Also a former human, Elena wore a lovely bridesmaid gown and easily navigated through the bride's relatives, all part of a coven of powerful and dangerous witches.
Elena's best friend, super witch Bonnie (Kat Graham), was also a part of the wedding party.
The two magically talented women helping a stressed out bride with last minute wedding preparations.
A Vampire/Witch True Love Story
Ric is madly in love with his future bride and calls her five minutes before the start of the ceremony to tell her he couldn't wait to be with her.
It was very sweet and incredibly romantic.
As they said their vows Ric was all kinds of dreamy. He romantically promised Jo he would “dodge fate with you for the rest of our lives.”
Wedding Violence
Even though the witch bride, (who happened to be pregnant with twin witches) wore a gorgeous white gown to marry her former vampire, violence erupted.
The bride was murdered, stabbed repeatedly in the back by her arch enemy Kai. She was covered with blood before she was able to finish saying her final vows.
Ric had to leave his future bride crumpled onto the floor covered in blood.
Witch Karma
Previously Jo had saved Alaric life when he crossed a forbidden border and began to succumb to the injuries which caused his previous human death.
The good doctor had managed to stop his bleeding, allowing Alaric to continue to live as a human instead of die an ex-vampire.
Jo and Alaric's vampire wedding brought some of the vampire/witch couples together, destroyed others and had some dangerous uninvited guests.
Sadly, Jo is now dead.
Even more shockingly, Elena, was critically injured during the wedding and is in a spell induced coma.
Summary - Vampire Wedding
Although some vampire and witch fans might envision a vampire wedding where the bride and groom wear black, this was not the case on The Vampire Diaries.
Other than the fact the bride was a witch and the groom a former vampire, the wedding was lovely and appeared normal in every way.
Sadly, the beautiful vampire wedding had a tragic end which of course is not all that unexpected considering the nature of the TV series.
